Bestway Celebrates 50 Years with Royal Portrait Artist Tribute to Sir Anwar Pervez
London, 9 July 2025. The National Gallery set the stage for a historic evening to celebrate Bestway’s 50th anniversary with an exclusive reception and dinner attended by over 150 senior figures from the global business community. Hosted in the prestigious Barry Rooms by The Group’s Chairman the Lord Choudrey CBE SI Pk, the event paid tribute to the enduring legacy of the company’s Founder, Sir Anwar Pervez OBE H Pk.
Guests flew in from across the globe – including Pakistan, China, the UAE, and the United States – reflecting the multinational reach and influence of the Bestway Group. In his welcome remarks, Lord Choudrey emphasised the company’s evolution from a single convenience store in West London to one of the UK’s largest privately-owned businesses.
“This milestone is not just a celebration of our past, but a reaffirmation of the values that continue to drive us forward – integrity, entrepreneurship, and an unrelenting commitment to our people and partners,” said Lord Choudrey. “At the heart of it all is Sir Anwar’s remarkable vision, the dedication of our teams, and the trust of our customers and suppliers.”
“On behalf of the Bestway Group Board of Directors, we organised tonight’s dinner as a precursor to much larger gathering taking place tomorrow, to thank our foreign dignitaries and local stakeholders for their immense contribution in the success of our company”, said Lord Choudrey.
As per Lord Choudrey – “Bestway’s success could be summarised as Sir Anwar’s vision, the hard work of its management and staff; the loyalty of its customers and the support of its supplier partners”.
Following his speech, Lord Choudrey on behalf of the wider Bestway family presented a specially commissioned portrait to the company’s founder Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE H Pk. The portrait had been painted by acclaimed Royal portrait artist Richard Stone. Stone, whose work is held in the National Portrait Gallery and includes commissions from HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, shared with the audience his two-decade association with Sir Anwar whom he described to be extremely down to earth, modest – yet extremely generous human being – a rarest of rare men that the Royal Portrait Artist has had the pleasure of knowing.
