Achievements

For our Chairman:

An inspirational icon for the youth of today and an embodiment of success, Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE, H Pk has attained the pinnacle of his career through sheer hard work and determination. 

In 1992 the Queen bestowed upon Sir Anwar the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of his services to business and the world of charity.

In 1999 he was conferred Knight’s Bachelor in recognition for rendering meritorious services to the crown and country. This is the highest honour for a Pakistani ever in the UK.   

In March 2000, the President of Pakistan rewarded him the “Hilal-e-Pakistan” (H Pk) – the highest civilian award. No other expatriate has the singular distinction of receiving such an eminent recognition whilst living and working in a foreign country. 

In October 2005, after winning a public vote, Sir Anwar was awarded the prestigious Grocer Cup for Outstanding Achievement by the Institute of Grocery Distribution.   

In June 2006 Sir Anwar was chosen as the ‘Master Entrepreneur – London Region’ at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 Awards. 

In June 2006 the President of Pakistan awarded to Sir Anwar ‘Sitra-e-Essar’. This specially created award recognises the contribution made by individuals in aiding the efforts of relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction in the earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan.  Sir Anwar is the first recipient of this accolade.

In October 2006 Sir Anwar was chosen as the ‘Master Entrepreneur – UK’ at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 Awards.  The Award recognises those individuals who have made a sustained contribution to the success of multiple businesses over a period of more than ten years.

For Our Suppliers:

The success we have achieved over the years would not have been possible with the support of our supplier partners. Therefore, as a means of recognising suppliers’ contribution we introduced an innovative ‘Bestway Supplier of the Year Award’.    

For Our Customers:

With the aim of fully appreciating the contribution of our customers, Bestway has continued with its patronage of the ‘Retail Development Awards’, which are regularly held each year.  The award scheme, although only in its eighth year has emerged as a performance benchmark in the Independent and Convenience Store Sector.

As part of Sir Anwar’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility, three years ago, Retail Development Awards saw the introduction of a special Community Award to recognise the valuable contribution by the independents to the welfare of the local communities in which they operate.

We believe that our ability to remain a high performance business depends upon the commitment of our stakeholders to exceptional levels of productivity and performance, working together effectively and willingness to evolve and embrace new ideas.    

In order to motivate and reward our employees, we introduced the “Bestway Performance Awards”.  The winners are chosen through a ballot of all staff members.         

For Our Businesses:

In November 2005 Bestway Group was honoured with the ‘Social Responsibility Award’ at the JP Morgan 2005 Family Business Honours. The award is in recognition of demonstrating excellent standards of philanthropy and good citizenship as exemplified by Bestway.

In June 2006 Bestway Cash & Carry won the ‘Best Wholesaler Award’ at the Grocer Gold Awards. Bestway was short-listed as one of four outstanding companies operating in the diverse wholesale sector. The award recognises Bestway’s clear and well–executed strategy of helping its customers become better retailers.

In March 2010 Bestway Group was awarded the much coveted "Asian Business of Year" award at the Eastern Eye Asian Business Awards. The award recognises the great success the company has achieved since its inception to where it is today in breaking the £2.0 billion turnover barrier.
