Bestway Foundation
Sir Anwar passionately believes that in order to succeed, Bestway requires the highest standards of corporate behaviour towards all its stakeholders, the communities within which we work and the environment on which we have an impact. This is manifested in the charter of Bestway Foundation established in 1987 in the United Kingdom.
Every year the Group contributes 2.5% of its profit to Bestway Foundation for its various charitable activities geared towards the health and education sectors.
United Kingdom In the UK the Foundation has been a supporter of Age Concern, Ancient India & Iran Trust, Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council, Cancer Research UK, Confectionary’s Benevolent Fund, John Kelly Technology Schools/Colleges, National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, The National Grocers Benevolent Fund, The Special Schools & Academies Trust, The Oval Trust, The Princes Trust, University of Strathclyde Foundation amongst others.
These charitable contributions are in addition to scholarships/grants/bursaries to students in the UK.
Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE H Pk and Mr. Zameer Choudrey themselves play an active part in Crimestoppers, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and Caravan (Trade Industry Charity).
In the 1990s Bestway Foundation UK provided funding to a host of Information Technology and Learning Resource Centres in Europe’s most ethnically diverse borough of Brent, North West London.
Youth education is something that is very dear to Sir Anwar’s heart and to this effect he has taken an active interest in the Government’s efforts to upgrade both the curriculum as well as the infrastructure of Britain’s public school system through the Specialist Schools & Academies Program. Since 1997 Bestway Foundation has sponsored 35 Specialist Schools & Academies.
The Foundation’s flagship yearly fundraiser event – ‘The Ascot Charity Race Day’ – at the UK’s most popular race meeting is a key event in the country`s fund raising calendar. In the past years main beneficiaries have included the Prince’s Trust and Save the Children’s Fund.
In May 2006 Bestway Foundation joined hands with Sir John Major and Oval Trust, to a play a leading role in the creation of the Pakistan Room at the Oval Cricket Ground.
In the aftermath of unprecedented devastation caused by the October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan Bestway Group contributed in excess of £1.0 Million. In June 2009 order to facilitate the people displaced by events in the tribal areas of Pakistan, Bestway Foundation has announced 50 special scholarships for university students studying in Pakistan and UK.
Pakistan: With the aim of improving grant-giving mechanisms, Sir Anwar established Bestway Foundation Pakistan in 1997. Since then, over 1,000 students have been provided scholarships. The Foundation annually provides 300 scholarships to Medical and Engineering students throughout the country.
The President of Pakistan’s Earthquake Relief Fund, Edhi International Foundation, the Citizen’s Foundation, Forman Christian College Lahore, Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Lahore University of Management Sciences, National Society for Mentally & Emotionally Handicapped Children, CARE Foundation Pakistan etc. have been some of the recipients of the Foundation’s support in Pakistan. Bestway Foundation Pakistan and Bestway Cement support countless number of widows and orphans through grants.
Since October 1998 Bestway Cement – Hattar has built and provided financial support to local village schools and dispensaries. In the summer of 2004, in anticipation of the announcement of Bestway Cement Chakwal – I, Bestway Foundation UK approved a grant of US$ 1.0 million for Bestway Foundation Pakistan. In December 2004 Bestway Foundation adopted 29 Government run schools in Rawalpindi District. Since then the Foundation has invested in new teaching staff, schools buildings and modern facilities.
In April 2006 Bestway Foundation contributed in excess of US$ 0.3 million to National Management Foundation, to help fund institutions of higher learning in Punjab. In May 2006 Bestway Cement donated in excess of US$ 0.4 million towards the establishment of the Chakwal Campus of University of Engineering & Technology Lahore.
In June 2006 Bestway Foundation entered into an agreement with CARE Foundation Pakistan for sponsorship of inner city schools. As part of this agreement through an investment of approximately US$ 0.5 million Bestway Foundation has agreed to sponsor 2 Schools in Lahore for a year.
Since its inception, Bestway Group has donated in excess of £10.0 million to assist Bestway Foundation in its charitable activities.
