Bestway Cement (BCL), part of the Bestway Group, has posted a net profit of Rs3.94 billion (£25.3m) from July-Dec 2014, corresponding to the first six months of its 2015 fiscal year.

Profits were up 5% over the same period of the previous year with a particularly strong performance in the second quarter (Oct-Dec 2014) when the group earned Rs2.34 billion (£15m), a rise of 12.5% over the equivalent period in 2013.

BCL which purchased Lafarge Pakistan Cement in July 2014 is now the largest cement producer in Pakistan and has quadrupled its capacity over the last decade with production capacity increasing to 8.3m tonnnes per annum.

Zameer Choudrey, chief executive of the Bestway Group commented, “The first half of the 2015 fiscal year shows great promise for BCL. BCL continues to increase sales domestically and the robust performance in the second quarter and the acquisition of Lafarge, and its former plant located in Chakwal, will enable BCL to build on this growth both domestically and in our exports to other countries."
